A note from Grandma
Come on in, dear — mind the snow on your boots.
It started with one doll. Someone asked if I might make just one for a child who wouldn't have much waiting for her that Christmas. Well, once I got my needle going I couldn't seem to stop — by the time the snow really settled in over our little town, I'd made a hundred and fifty of them, lined up across every table in this house. Christmas morning, children all over town found a doll under their tree. Somewhere along the way, folks stopped using my name at all. I'm just Grandma now, to everybody.
That's the doll on the porch with me up there, and near a hundred of her sisters and cousins besides. I started writing down the stories behind them — where each one comes from, who loved her first — and that's how the books came to be. This little shop is where I keep it all: story books for the young ones, a few keepsakes for the grown-ups who remember being small, and prints of the dolls themselves, so a bit of that Christmas morning can hang on your own wall.
Pull up a chair. I'll put the kettle on.
